The Kromski Fantasia Spinning wheel gives a modern look to an old craft. For some of us, seeing this spinning wheel in a knitting magazine was our first dawning realization that people still spin their own yarn. There's no mistaking it, or its owner, for an antique! |
Many people chose the unfished Fantasia as their first spinning wheel, both to save cost, and to personalize it! You can see in the picture that Fantasia has a built-in Lazy Kate (the 2 bobbins on either side of the treadles) to help you ply the yarn you spin. Fantasia's small footprint and convenient handle on the back of the upright post, make it ideal for people with small living and crafting spaces.
Here in Three Oaks Knits' shop, beginners do well on the Fantasia. We suspect that they do for a few reasons, including the double treadles, the ease of seeing how this wheel works, and the bit of extra angular momentum from the weight of the decorative crosspiece (in other words, the wheel wants to keep turning even when the beginner don't have his/her treadling rhythm down yet). More experienced spinners love the quick change bobbin, and the availability of a jumbo orifice ring and hook kit.
Our distributor, New Voyager Trading, has excellent videos of the Fantasia in motion!
