Three Oaks Knits
Waterloo, Iowa's local yarn shop
Three Oaks Knits is Waterloo, Iowa’s growing Local Yarn Shop. Megan Lostroh is the owner and manager, and she gets lots of help and support from husband, Keith Lostroh, and son Aaron Lostroh.
You'll find Three Oaks Knits at 2827 University Ave., across the street from Hancock Fabrics. Our space used to house a golf shop, and we still have the putting green for kids and bored spouses. If you don't yet know how to knit or crochet, just come in, buy some yarn, needles and/or hook, and we'll teach you for free. If you know how, but are stuck on a project, we'll be glad to help. We want you to be successful and enjoy these hobbies for years to come.
The name "Three Oaks Knits" came from our good friend, Beckie Scheel, who started the shop circa 2000, on Main Street in neighboring Cedar Falls. As you might guess, Beckie has 3 oak trees in her yard at home. The shop originally specialized in machine knitting and grew into more of a hand knitting shop. It survived a fire and a flood, thanks to very loyal customers! Nowadays, Three Oaks Knits is more than just knitting...it's also spinning, needle felting, tatting...and yes, crochet. We love crochet!
We believe that increasing interest in all of the fiber arts is the key to our long term success. The Northeast Iowa Weaver's and Spinner's Guild is only about a mile from the shop. There is a wealth of knowledge there, which we recommend highly. Their Facebook page is at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Northeast-Iowa-Weavers-Spinners-Guild/198341573538752.
